NEWS 10/10/06: Third space
is a charm! Due to some technical problems with the Fayetteville
Street location, we're moving into a gem of a space at 319
W Martin Street in downtown Raleigh. Check the calendar
of events to plan your participation.
Design Expo Raleigh 06 will be a two week celebration
of the incredible designers who call the Triangle home and all the
innovative work being created here. The theme for this year's inaugural
event is “Hidden Gems: Great Design in
Our Own Backyard.” We have a powerful and wonderful
design community – it’s time for the rest of the world
to know about it.
The purpose of Design Expo Raleigh is to present great design to the public and to give designers,
both professionals and students, a forum to display and discuss
their work. A unique showcase of applied arts coming together as
a whole, Design Expo Raleigh promotes broader awareness of many
different design disciplines and creates an opportunity for local
designers to network with each other, students, and the public.
Among the diverse applied arts to be represented at
Design Expo Raleigh 06 are Animation,
Architecture, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design,
Landscape Architecture, and Textile/Fashion Design. Our main Exhibition
06 will showcase exhibits from each discipline. In
addition, there will be lectures featuring both the educational
and professional aspects of each discipline, and tours of specific
projects giving the public and other designers a unique perspective
on a designer’s creation. Also scheduled are gala receptions
and a Designer Market allowing designers to sell their works directly
to the public.
It is the goal of Design Expo Raleigh 06 to stimulate dialogue between students of all ages, professionals, and the general public about design and its role in our lives. Come be a part of it! We are actively looking for volunteers and sponsors who want to show that great design matters to them.
