Design Expo Raleigh is looking for excellent examples of Industrial Design here in the Triangle. If you are a product designer and have a great product you want to show off, please submit it to us for review. Any product is permissible, including consumer goods, furniture, computer equipment, etc. If our panel of judges likes what they see, along with the information you provide, you will receive a letter of offer to display your product in Exhibition '06.
Download the Industrial Design Entry Form and attach at least two (2) 5 x 7 images of different views of the design. These images can be on one 8.5 x 11 page or you can add more pages and images, if necessary. Just give us enough information to make an effective decision.
Submission Requirements
- You live, go to school, or work within the Research Triangle Region (i.e., the greater Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area)
- You are least 18 years of age
- You are the original creator of the design
- You have not copied anyone else's work
- Your design does not infringe on anyone else's intellectual property
- A signed Photography Rights Form must be included in the submission entry
- If the design has been created for a second party, you have the rights to show the design to the public
- Only three-dimensional products and prototypes will be shown at Exhibition '06 in the Industrial Design category – no boards or images of conceptual work allowed – unless product is exceptionally large or heavy (i.e., boat, automobile, etc.). Please note any such concerns on your application.
- Entrants invited to exhibit will also be required to include a B/W photo of the designer, images of the product in JPEG form, and a brief written statement about the product or project as well as the designer(s). This information will be used on the display. Complete project submission details will be in the Letter of Offer to Exhibit.

Judges:
Haig Khachatoorian,
IDSA, has practiced internationally in the disciplines of industrial,
exhibit, graphic and interior design as consultant, educator and
freelance designer. He joined the NCSU College of Design faculty
in 1987. He has served as Department Chair of Industrial Design,
Director of Graduate Programs, and Associate Dean for Research.
Khachatoorian has consulted for a wide range of clients, including:
Royal Trust, Bank of America, Ford, GTE, Barclays Bank, Canadair,
Midway Airlines, Citibank, Federal Express, Porsche Cars NA, Ross
Labs, Storehouse, Amoco, USIA, GlaxoWellcome, Philips, IBM, John
Deere, and Bugatti Italy. He has held numerous offices in CSCA,
IDSA, AIGA and others, including chair of IDSA Carolinas Chapter
and VP of AIGA Raleigh. He has also received awards from IDSA,
IBD, ISP, NRMA. Khachatoorian studied at Pratt Institute, ASP/Krakow,
Surrey and Harvard GSD. Among other honors, he was a Loeb Fellow,
DAAD and Fulbright Scholar (twice) and was inducted into The Honor
Society of Phi Kappa Phi. |

| Banks C. Talley III, IDSA, a
native of Raleigh, North Carolina, received all of his degrees from
North Carolina State University in Raleigh. He has a Bachelor of
Arts in English, a Bachelor of Environmental Design (with a concentration
in Industrial Design & Art and Design) and a Master of Industrial
Design. He also spent a semester in Seville, Spain at Trinity College
learning Spanish and a summer at Oxford University taking an intensive
course in Renaissance art history. In his career, he has worked
as the Lighting Designer at the NC Museum of Art, as a Project Manager
at Design & Production Inc. (an exhibit design and fabrication
firm outside of Washington, DC) as a Designer and Project Manager
at Douglas/Gallagher in Washington, DC and as a Development Officer
at Habitat for Humanity in Raleigh, NC. He has worked on such notable
projects as Science City at Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri,
The Oklahoma City Memorial Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, The
Jewish Children’s Museum in Brooklyn, New York, The Federal
Reserve Bank of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois and the Armed Forces
Hall at the National Museum of American History in Washington, DC.
Since 2004, he has been an Assistant Professor of Industrial Design
at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. |

| Vincent Gardner
has practiced in many faucets of design including industrial design,
graphic design, exhibit design and web design since graduating from
the College of Design at NCSU. Vincent holds two degrees from NCSU,
Bachelor of Environmental Design in Product Design (BED) and Master’s
in Industrial Design (MID). He is currently an Instructor at the
School of Communication ARTS in Raleigh, NC. He has also worked
with such companies as, Design Works Inc., IBM, American Yard Products,
General Motors, MOMA, The North Carolina Aquariums, Skyline Displays
and MEY Corporation. His numerous honors include, IDSA Student Merit
Winner, being inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi,
TA Conservation Award (Best Exhibit Design), as well as the prestigious
Michelin Challenge Design Winner for his truck concept called the
Hauler. Vincent firmly believes “design can create positive
change.” |
