Design Expo Raleigh is looking to recognize and promote the best of animation and new media that is produced in the Triangle. If you are passionate about your work as a multimedia designer, interactive artist, computer animator, game designer, director or film maker and have an exciting project that you want to show off, submit it to Design Expo Raleigh for Exhibition '06. If our panel of judges likes what they see along with the information you provide, you will receive a Letter of Offer to Exhibit your project in Exhibition '06.
Download and submit the animation/new media entry form and include a NTSC VHS videotapes or a region-free DVD, CD with your MPG2, AVI or Quicktime MOV, JPGs/PNGs, or Macromedia .FLA/.SWF included in a folder.
Types of Category Submissions being reviewed:
- Game cinematics, animations or Short-film Documentaries that are artistically expressive, experimental, narrative or non-narrative
- CD/DVD-ROM and web-based work to include screen-based work, database art, web art.
Submission Requirements:
- Only NTSC VHS videotapes, region-free DVD, CD, MPG2, AVI or Quicktime MOV, JPGs/PNGs, .FLA/.SWF
- No website/URLs will be accepted as submitted entry material. Although your website/URL will be available to the public during the exhibition.
- No submission will be accepted that requires an internet connection/server or database in order for the project to be reviewed/or displayed
- Maximum 10 minutes total runtime. IMPORTANT: Only 10 minutes of material/footage will be juried/exhibited/viewed
- Each tape or CD/DVD must contain only one submission.
- Multiple submissions on a single piece of media will not be juried.
- You live, go to school, or work within the Research Triangle Region
(i.e., the greater Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area)
- You are least 18 years of age
- You are the original creator of the design
- You have not copied anyone else's work
- A signed Photography Rights Form must be included in the submission entry
- If the design has been created for a second party, you must have the rights to show the design to the public
- Entrants invited to exhibit will also be required to include a B/W photo of the designer(s), images of the line, fabric, or accessory, in JPEG form, and a brief written statement about the project, as well as the designer(s). This information will be used beside the display. Actual project submission details will be in the Letter of Offer to Exhibit.

Rick Cecil - www.rickcecil.com
Richard F. Cecil is the User Experience Team Lead at Motricity. He has nearly a decade of experience envisioning and designing innovative solutions for a variety of companies, including startups, non-profits, universities, and Fortune 100 companies. During his tenure at Motricity, he has worked with Cingular, BET, Ask, Alltel, and other clients and is the lead designer for Motricity's core product offering. In addition, he is a co-founder of the Interaction Design Group (now the Interaction Design Association), the UXnet ambassador for the RTP region, and active in the UPA--serving on the organizing committee for World Usability Day as well as co-founding his local UPA chapter. |

David Franks is the president and cofounder of U.S. Animation Sales located in Raleigh, NC. The company is two years old, and offers animation production services, distribution and funding for animated properties; with offices in Korea, Malaysia, Spain, India and the US. We have worked on projects for Nick Jr., Disney, PBS and more. Past employment includes Art Director at Midway Games, Art Director at Magnet Intereactive Studis, Art Director at Random Games, Lead Artist at Jaleco and VR1, and Animation Director for a Marvel property, “Daredevil”. David has worked on many high profile licensed properties such as, “Gladiator”, “Highlander” and “Daredevil”. David was a cofounder of an animation studio in Raleigh NC in the 1980’s called CyberKids. He also created the pirate mascot for East Carolina University. |

Hal Meeks - www.halmeeks.net
Tinkerer, dabbler, musician and storyteller with a short attention
span. BA in Speech Communications from North Carolina State
University. Spent time shooting short films, shown at the NC Museum
of Art. Worked for 5 years for a video production company doing a bit
of everything; musician, editor, cameraman, lighting, scripting. Got
a Commodore 64 and wrote a paint program in horrible spaghetti code.
Bought an Amiga and stole time on a friend's Mac. Went to work for NC
State's Information Technology Division, immersed himself in
computers and how they could be used in storytelling and teaching.
For the last 15 years, has worked with faculty to develop innovative
uses of digital media in teaching, including BioMovies, Wolfcast,
streaming media, mobile media and digitally enhanced collaborative
work spaces. Currently in the Art and Design Master's program at NCSU. |
